…EAT DOUGHNUTS! EAT LOTS OF POMEGRANATE SEEDS BECAUSE YOU FEEL GUILTY ABOUT THE DOUGHNUTS! BINGE LISTEN TO CHRISTMAS CAROLS! CRY YOUR EYES OUT REMINISCING ABOUT HOLIDAYS PAST! Ok, maybe my Sunday consisted of some or all of these activities…
It truly is the most wonderful time of the year, minus that whole spring/summer thing that happens for like 4 months. Families are visited, gifts received, food most definitely consumed, and I’m convinced that everyone’s heart grows a bit larger, just a bit.
Last night when I just so happened to be pitting a pomegranate & listening to Christmas carols, I began to start blubbering like a baby (I mean who doesn’t get a little teary-eyed listening to Judy Garland chime “through the years, we all will be together”?) Both Thanksgiving and Christmas make me extremely nostalgic for holidays past, especially those of which I didn’t have bills to pay or a job to go to. I frequently find myself missing those times of my childhood so much that my little heart doesn’t know how to handle that extreme feeling of nostalgia and sentiment so I just burst into tears. I swear I’m a stable person.
I spent Thanksgiving in Pullman, Washington home to Washington State University & Dustin’s family. I met the family, had my first West Coast experience, spent some time in Seattle, slept in the coziest king size bed ever, snuggled a 3-legged cat, made caramel candies, trained at WAZZU’s stunning facilities (POOL! TRACK! 10 + SQUAT RACKS!), the list goes on… It was wonderful to experience holiday traditions of a new family, Pineapple dressing being one of them along with many meals at their restaurant Winger’s!
I hope your Turkey Day was full of delicious dishes, severe cases of the “itis”, and pants with elastic waist bands!
Here’s what I’ve been munching on these days…
An epic chana masala spread.
My daily breakfast: hot bran cereal jam-packed with chia seeds, flax meal, hulled hemp seeds, pepitas, dried cranberries, & lots o’cinnamon! Sometimes I use oats, millet, or whatever easy-access grain I have. I vary up what gets tossed in too: almonds, sliced bananas, sesame seeds, goji berries, get crazy!
Sweet potato taco soup topped with avocado, spicy tortilla shreds, and beaucoup de cilantro. Recipe from The Faux Martha!
Happy Holidays to all; Christmas is 17 days away and I can’t wait to celebrate another holiday with new memories that I will cry & yearn over a year from now.
